The Hags Taper- Mullein Torch Magic for Litha

A Midsummer Workshop

Long before electricity, mullein was the torch. Called hag’s taper, witch’s candle and Jupiter’s staff, this towering roadside plant has been dipped in fat and carried through the dark for centuries! At funerals, at festivals and wherever fire was needed to mark something sacred. At midsummer, when the sun reaches its peak and fire magic is at its most potent, there is no more fitting light to carry.

You will dip and dress your own mullein torch in beeswax, learning the folklore and magical history of the plant as you work. We’ll cover solar and fire correspondences for Litha, how to layer intention into the dipping process and what herbs, resins and oils can be added to the wax for specific workings. You’ll leave with a finished torch and the knowledge of how to use it.

What we’ll cover:

-Mullein’s folkloric history as a ritual torch across European traditions

-Solar and fire correspondences for Litha workings

-The dipping process

-Dressing your torch with herbs, resins and oils

-How to burn, read and work with your torch ritually

You’ll take home:

-One finished beeswax dipped mullein torch, dressed for midsummer

-Reference booklet on mullein lore and solar fire magic

All levels welcome. All materials provided. *Children under 13 need a parent.

  • We always encourage you to bring whatever is called to you to add to your workshop. This could be a special charm, herb that we may not have, scent etc.

Rose Medicine- Tending The Resistance

Delve into the history, legend and alchemical lore of an ancient plant ally: the ROSE. Join Brandi Rawluk

Rose Medicine: Tending to the Resistance

Delve into the history, legend and alchemical lore of an ancient plant ally: the ROSE. Venerated across cultures and time for her beauty, strength and resilient magic, the Rose has much to teach us. Not just a pretty face, this mystical plant can be used for some very powerful spell work and healing practices. If you are feeling the effects of dark times in a heartbreaking world, join me for an intimate tea time where we will rejuvenate and empower by discussing the smell, taste and lore of all things Rose! Participants will contribute to a community cauldron of bath salts, which you will get to take home for your personal ritual.

About your Guide!

Brandi Marie Rawluk is a multi-disciplinary artist, tattooist and witch of the woods. Her work is rooted in the exploration of folklore, storytelling, and the character of Grandmother Spirit. Utilizing art-making as ritual, her creations act as a conduit between the viewer and an ancient force of Elder magic. Working in a variety of mediums, her work redefines what it means to be the “hero” in the hero’s journey. With Grandmother (or the Crone) as her muse, she is able to add a new layer to legend and reveal a side of beauty that is rarely exalted. Her art provides an opportunity to examine our fears of mortality and come face to face with the Creatrix. Brandi lives and works on the unceded and traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Her creations are formed in nature and in her East Van studio. Brandi works part time as a tattooist, under the moniker of SheWolf Tattoo, and is currently researching and producing her own oracle deck: the CRONE ORACLE.
